General Crush is the stage name for Boston-based singer-songwriter and producer Ray Ward. Named after Ray Charles, Ward comes from a musical family and began his career as a bass player in local indie bands. Taking on the General Crush moniker in 2016, his sound combines stripped down, bedroom style songwriting with lush, ethereal beats. In a short period of time he has strung together a series of independent releases, including the Nick Drake influenced "Wide Escape" EP and the genre-bending singles "Beautiful Day" and "Honey Clouds." Blending diverse influences from folk, psychedelic rock, and electro-pop, his songs tell intimate stories with a wide sonic range.
